She tried so hard to overcome.
Jen was a force to be reckoned with–fierce, loyal, and determined. Despite struggling with insecurity and personal demons, she had a heart of gold and would do anything for those she loved. Her life was a combination of triumphs and struggles, but through it all, her love and kindness shone brightly.
Growing up, Jen was a bright and energetic child. She excelled in sports, particularly swimming and softball, and was a member of the YMCA swim team. Her achievements in the pool were a testament to her hard work and dedication, and she made it to the state championship for the butterfly stroke. She loved to get her nails done, cook, binge watch her favorite shows and take care of others. She especially loved fall in New Hampshire.
As she entered her teenage years, Jen struggled with anxiety and depression and began to self-medicate to cope. Her family, who loved her unconditionally, supported her through this difficult time, but Jen’s struggles only intensified.
As she grew older, Jen faced many challenges, including addiction and health problems. She was in and out of treatment for addiction, enjoying the structure and her ability to help others, and she had several long periods of sobriety. Jen wanted to be a drug and alcohol counselor once she was established.
Throughout her life, Jen’s family was her rock. It was difficult to see her struggling and not being able to help. They spent years attending support groups and living with the fear of losing her. They stood by her through thick and thin, offering love, support, and encouragement whenever she needed it. She had a particularly strong bond with her mother, Patti, who was her closest confidante, and her step-father, Mike, who loved her like his own.
Jen never lost her determination to succeed. She was a server and bartender at several restaurants and great at making connections with her regulars. She went back to school, earning her high school diploma at 21, and received an award and scholarship for her achievements. Moments of joy included spending time with Patti while shopping, eating out, and having “girl time.” She adored her family, especially her brother Jon, and was fiercely loyal to those she cared about.
Jen was in a long-term relationship with Grant, establishing a healthy relationship with his children, Anton, and Araya, as if they were her own. She was a constant presence in their lives, even after her relationship with Grant ended. They both cherish the memories they made with Jen.
Jen’s mom is now an advocate for people with substance use disorder and educates anyone who will listen. She misses Jen’s laugh and smile, and cherishes the close connection that they shared.
