Magnetic, confident, social butterfly
Jesse was the life of the party, a magnetic dynamo that brought raucous laughter and energy wherever he went. He loved to dance, listen to live music, and bring people together. He adored the beach, dogs, and Eagles football, though he was born in California and lived in Texas. Confident and connected, Jesse lit up any room he was in, formed close bonds, selflessly served others, and showed heart in everything he did. The giving conscientious soul with a “rasta irie” spirit had close-knit ties with friends and family including his brothers Shannon and Jade, his parents Francine, and Ed, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law. His niece Piper Beverly and nephew Jace were nicknamed “PB&J” by their doting uncle Jesse.
Gatherings with food, friends, and family were cherished times for Jesse. He was a natural entertainer, hilarious and heartfelt in his care of others. As the son of a well-known DJ in San Antonio, he grew up at music and sports venues. After graduating from Tom C. Clark High School, he entered the service industry, where he befriended coworkers and was a natural salesman. He excelled at making others feel seen, heard, and loved. Fierce and loyal, respectful and protective, he made an impact everywhere he went. Through it all, Jesse battled substance use disorder while staying loving, vibrant, and generous.
Jesse dreamed of a future by the ocean, surfing, healing, and mentoring others. He wanted to travel and build a family. The force of joy known as Jesse was irreparably devastated by a cancer diagnosis in his youth that left its mark on his mental health and the pandemic’s effects on social interaction, siloing his outgoing, extroverted soul. Isolation intensified his substance use, leaving his family and loved ones on an emotional roller coaster as Jesse lost his will to live. After two decades of living with substance use disorder, Jesse’s tide ebbed to the horizon.
In the wake of his passing, the community showed endearing support and love for their soul brother. A Surfer’s Salute was held in Port Aransas in his honor. His brother Jade details how Jesse’s passing has changed everything and the legacy he left behind. “We carry the weight of what could have been, and the ache of missing someone we loved so fiercely. But we also carry the memory of his love, his laughter, and his passion for community.” Those who loved Jesse are determined to stay open and fight the stigma, knowing it’s not a moral failing, but rather a disease. His family rededicated themselves to sober living in Jesse’s absence, honoring the big-hearted, bold, loving, and unforgettable person who left an indelible mark on the community he so thoroughly loved.
