Passionate, adventurous, goofy, loving man
Keelan was not just a man with a big heart; he was a beacon of love, passion, and adventure. Known for his infectious laughter and buoyant smile, Keelan embraced life with a spirit of generosity. Whether it was offering the shirt off his back or his last dollar, he lived to lift others up. His proudest achievement was his son, KJ, who was the center of his world.
An ardent sports enthusiast, Keelan’s passion was cheering for his favorite teams. He was a die-hard fan of Thunder Basketball and the Oklahoma Sooners. He relished the thrill of tailgating and the excitement of Bedlam games. Despite being a staunch Dallas Cowboys supporter, Keelan enjoyed a friendly rivalry with KJ, who roots for the Kansas City Chiefs. The pair shared their love of numbers and stats and countless hours discussing sports trades and salary caps, their bond over these discussions drawing them even closer.
Keelan’s academic pursuits led him to a career in healthcare, where he qualified as a medical technician and phlebotomist. His drive to help others was a testament to his compassionate nature. A recent life-changing discovery was finding out, through an Ancestry test, that he and his brother, Derek, had a half-sister, a revelation that filled their lives with newfound love and joy. Keelan’s recent reunion with Shawna was a fulfillment of his lifelong dream of having a sister.
Dedication to family was a defining characteristic of Keelan’s life. Living with his disabled mother, he was her steadfast helper, ensuring both her comfort and the upkeep of their home. Keelan’s brother Derek and his childhood friend, Josh, were integral figures in his life, sharing countless memories and milestones. Knowing he had two left feet and couldn’t sing, Keelan could lighten a mood with goofy dances while singing off-key. He didn’t care if he embarrassed himself if he helped others forget their problems for a bit.
Keelan’s former partner, Marissa, often lived in fear of what could happen. Since his passing, “grief comes in waves,” she stated. She has educated herself about the disease of addiction, and is teaching KJ that it is okay to show his pain, and to release his anger at losing his dad. At 17, Keelan lost his own father to an accidental overdose.
Despite the challenges posed by his own struggles with addiction, Keelan showed resilience and a commitment to turning his life around. He aspired to reach sobriety, restore his health, and expand his family, dreaming of the day he could provide a sibling for KJ.
Keelan will be profoundly missed, but fondly remembered for his big heart, his radiant smile, and his boundless love.
