Unafraid to be his true self
Logan lived with courage, heart, and an adventurous spirit. He was kind, funny, and full of love; the kind of person who could light up a room with his handsome smile and make anyone feel like they belonged. He had a special way of connecting with people and was always willing to listen, never judging, and quick to offer love and support to anyone who needed it. Music was a huge part of who Logan was. He didn’t just listen to songs, he felt them. The lyrics and the meaning behind them spoke to his soul. He loved watching the Houston Astros, spending as much time as possible at the beach, catching sunrises and sunsets, and time with family and friends.
Logan graduated from La Porte High School in 2013. He was intelligent, wise beyond his years, and had a way with words that touched people. At the time of his passing, he was taking courses towards a civil drafting degree. He was passionate about finishing college and was working at an electrical company in shipping and receiving. His employer had committed to helping him with school expenses and a future promotion.
There was deep love shared throughout Logan’s family, especially with his older brother Robert, and Robert’s children, Ariana and Robert Jr., whom Logan treated like his own. He remained close with his three best friends from junior high school, Chloe, Alexis, and Britany. They stood by him through the good and the bad. In 2016, Logan began his gender transition, bravely deciding to live the way he chose. Then in October 2021, after saving for it himself, he underwent a transformative gender affirming surgery, a moment that brought him immense happiness and pride. Living sober became one of his greatest accomplishments.
Substance use disorder (SUD) was something Logan grappled with for many years, much of it tied to his struggle with gender dysphoria. Still, he worked hard to overcome it. He had been sober since November 10, 2021, nearly a full year. He inspired others in recovery, including a man he met in treatment, who credited Logan with helping him confront his own trauma and stay in recovery. Unfortunately, in November 2022, Logan relapsed after a difficult breakup stemming from a relationship he wasn’t ready for after only six months of sobriety. On November 7, 2022, the day of the Houston Astros World Series parade, Logan planned to go and invited his ex-girlfriend. When she declined, he turned to the coping mechanism that had haunted him for years. He bought heroin, unaware it was laced with a deadly amount of fentanyl. On November 8, 2022, Logan passed away from fentanyl poisoning.
Logan’s death shattered his family’s world. His mother carries the final memory of hugging him goodbye during a family pumpkin carving and steak dinner just days before he passed, a moment forever etched in her heart. Today, Logan’s family honors his memory through action and advocacy. His mother is a board member of Travis’s Voice Fentanyl Awareness, a non-profit organization. They speak at schools, community events, and to parents and students, spreading awareness about the dangers of illicit fentanyl. Before Logan’s death, they had no idea how prevalent and deadly fentanyl was. They are now committed to educating others, saving lives, and ensuring Logan’s story helps prevent future tragedies.
