Rebekah Nicole Terrance

Rebekah Nicole Terrance

Beautiful, endearing, kind, athletic, hardworking.

Bekah was a gorgeous, charismatic young woman who had a smile that lit up her entire face, and a fun-loving, exuberant personality that could win over even the most unpleasant skeptic. Her selflessness and passion for loving people were evident in the ways she showed up for not only her loved ones, but strangers as well. One of her most admirable qualities was her ability to make friends anywhere she went. She had an almost uncanny way of making people feel seen and cared for. Bekah was a welcoming person who always saw the best in people, even those who others had already written off.

Throughout her life, Bekah cherished spending time with her family. Some of her favorite pastimes were family gatherings, game nights, movie nights, and cookouts. No matter how the food turned out, Bekah was grateful and always complimented the cook. She loved playing Loteria with her family and celebrating her wins with her cousins by yelling, “Buena, Pozito!” Bekah and her cousins, Gabby, and Ari, whose birthdays were within a couple of weeks of each other, always celebrated with a large party—a cherished tradition they will never forget. She also loved to spend time with her brothers, AJ and Jon Jon, whether it was watching movies, going shopping, eating out, or playing card games.

Another thing that brought Bekah joy was family fishing trips. Whether they were successful trips out on the boat with a big catch to bring home, or they were chaotic trips where the water was choppy and made her sick, you would never see the smile on Bekah’s face disappear. Even on the trip where she slipped on vomit!

Bekah loved everything girl coded, including dancing, cheerleading, and running. When she was a young girl, she enjoyed playing dress-up and wearing her grandma’s high heels. Bekah carried her love of fashion into her adult years and even won best dressed in a beauty pageant in her teenage years. She always had a passion for cosmetology and hair and attended The Salon Professional Academy of San Antonio, where she expanded her techniques. She loved making people feel beautiful and empowered and had a dream of one day opening her own beauty salon.

Shortly before her passing, Bekah recommitted herself to God. An act which gave her family so much peace. Rebekah’s mother, Adriana, would like to let people know that substance use disorder (SUD) is a disease that is not selective, it affects people of all character types and backgrounds, regardless of how kind, hardworking, or dedicated they are. She says that throughout her addiction, Bekah was the same compassionate person she always was, a woman who touched so many lives positively. The enduring legacy of her kindness lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Rebekah’s mother, Adriana Terrance, provided information for this narrative.

Mary Grace Baker

Mary Grace Baker

She was herself everywhere she went Community and song followed on the heels of Mary Grace Baker. Wherever she had been, stories sprouted, singing praise of her spirit and faith. A man in Utah called Mary’s mother, Susan, just to tell her that after he had met her daughter, he rededicated his life to God. Mary changed his life. All around the country, the sheer force of Mary touched lives, even in the darkest of places–when Mary was in juvenile court, she rallied the other girls to join into a chorus, singing “Take the Shackles Off My Feet So I Can Dance.” Mary’s substance use disorder meant that she often found herself in the court system, hospitals, and treatment programs–some of the hardest places; places, by their nature, that punctuate the lowest moments of a person’s life. Yet Mary had a unique way to forge through these corridors of pain, and find joy and connection, uplifting those around her into a community of love and hope.
