Loving, kind-hearted, caring, great personality
Kayla was known for her fun, outgoing personality and her love of dancing, shopping, fashion, and cooking. She often spent time dancing with her mother. They would watch dance videos together, practice emulating them, and learn new moves. She was silly at times, bringing joy and laughter to those around her.
From a young age, Kayla showed creativity and talent. She loved fashion and dreamed of becoming a fashion designer, with plans to attend college and one day open her own dance studio. She was also artistic and enjoyed drawing, a quieter passion that not everyone knew about. Kayla was very smart and had a natural ability in school, often mastering material quickly.
She attended Stephenson High School in DeKalb County and had recently reached an important milestone: getting her first job. She was hired to make sandwiches at Subway. She loved cooking at home, especially during family cookouts.
The youngest of five, Kayla shared a close bond with her family. She had three sisters, Marnisha, Kimberly, and Haleigh, one brother, Sedrick, two nephews, and one niece. She had many friends and was known for her warm, welcoming spirit—people were naturally drawn to her and enjoyed her company. Her close friend Cree, and her cousins Joycesay and Carmen held special places in her life.
Her mother, Kimberly, remembers a family trip to Florida. Kayla insisted she would stay awake the entire car ride but was the first of her siblings to fall asleep. Moments like these remain lasting memories for Kimberly. Kayla’s life was cut short just as she was beginning to realize her goals. She died from a fentanyl overdose in September 2023. Her family continues to honor her memory by speaking at events and helping others seek the support they need.
Kayla’s presence is deeply missed, along with the joy she brought to everyday moments.
